José Gervasio Artigas (1764-1850), fue un militar y estadista rioplatense que actuó durante la Guerra de la Independencia de las Provincias Unidas del Río de la Plata y que se destacó por ser el heraldo del federalismo en lo que hoy son Uruguay y Argentina.
