Lambert Adolphe Jacques Quetelet (1796-1874), fue un astrónomo y naturalista belga, también matemático, sociólogo y estadístico. Fundó y dirigió el Real Observatorio de Bélgica. Influyó, y también fue criticado, por la aplicación de los métodos estadísticos a las ciencias sociales.
