Maitreya (en sánscrito) o Metteyya (en pali) es un nombre que aparece en la espiritualidad budista para referirse a un futuro Buda de este mundo en la escatología budista. En algunas literaturas budistas, como el Sutra de Amitabha o el Sutra del Loto, recibe el nombre de Ajita.
