Cuauhtémoc, conocido por los conquistadores españoles como Guatemuz (1496-1525), fue el último tlatoani mexica de México-Tenochtitlan. Asumió el poder en 1520, un año antes de la toma de Tenochtitlan por Hernán Cortés y sus tropas. El nombre Cuāuhtémōc que significa literalmente 'Águila que descendió'.
