Alonso de Ojeda (1468-1515), fue navegante, gobernador y conquistador español; recorrió las costas de Guyana, Venezuela, Trinidad, Tobago, Curazao, Aruba y Colombia. Es famoso por haber dado el nombre Venezuela a la región que exploró en sus dos primeros viajes y por haber descubierto el Lago de Maracaibo y fundar Santa Cruz.
